How Can I Buy...?

This page is under continuing construction, but is intended to provide information about acquiring a variety of commodities often used at Stanford University. It is generally structured around commodity groups, with information specific to a given commodity provided for each area.

This area is very much in development, and we are actively seeking our customers' ideas about what should appear here. If you have questions about a particular commodity, or comments, suggestions, or advice about buying a particular commodity, please let us know. We'll try to include as much information here as time, resources, and customer needs allow.

• Shipping
  Stanford maintains agreements with DHL, UPS, Federal Express. Each shipper offers discounted rates for a variety of shipping services, ranging from overnight letters to more traditional surface shipment of packages.
  As of April, 2001, Stanford has begun to use the AccuShip online system to manage Fedex and DHL shipping. Find out more about Accuship
• Consulting Services
  Need to hire a consultant ? Can't figure out how to get them paid ? Or how to get a contract written ? Or whether you need a contract ? Here are the secrets to successfully navigating this mine field.
• Meeting and Conference Catering
  Stanford Dining can provide catering services for meetings and conferences. Please contact them at dining.stanford.edu
• S@VE Stanford Administrators Vendor Exchange
  Reports and reviews of vendors in several commodity areas, including caterers, printers, and more.
• CWA Vendors
  More detailed information about the vendors participating in Stanford's Campus Wide Agreements program.
• Dell Computers
• Microsoft Select
  Part of the Computer Supplies Campus Wide Agreement, the Microsoft Select program offers MS software to the campus at dramatically reduced costs. Core Items
• Office Supplies
  Stanford maintains a campus wide agreement for Office Supplies with Corporate Express. Supplies can be ordered through the Oracle application, using an online catalog. For special requests or questions, please contact CE Customer Support at 800/267-5726.
• Lab Supplies
  Stanford maintains a campus wide agreement for Lab Supplies with Fisher Scientific Corp. As with office supplies, lab supplies can be ordered through Oracle, using an online catalog.
• Moving Services
  Stanford has three non-exclusive agreements with moving contractors. These three contractors provide quality services at discounted prices. Instructions for using these services are on the web for your reference, as is Contact Information .
• Typewriter Mainenance
  Still have those old Selectric typewriters around the office ? Don't feel bad, so does everyone else. Stanford has two companies under contract to provide maintenance of typewriters. Details of the process and the agreements is here .
• Forms. Many forms are available via CWA order, others are distributed directly by various Stanford offices. This list attempts to provide an up-to-date listing.
• Contractors
  Hiring contractors to perform services is complicated, and there are many rules which may come into play. For some help, look at the Admin Toolkit Section 6; Paying People . Also please review these instructions for determining Employee vs Independent Contractor status.
  Stanford also maintains a list of Service Order Contractors. Used primarily by CP&M and Facilities Operations, these contractors specialize in one or more of the building trades. For more information about Service Orders, contact Karen Mackie-Jones in the Contracts Office.
